STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT IN COMMERCE: NAVIGATING COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPES FOR SUSTAINABLE VALUE CREATION

Onyedikachi Gladys Alaso

Abstract

In an era defined by hyper competition, technological disruption, and escalating societal demands for corporate responsibility, strategic management in commerce faces a paradigm shift. This paper argues that long-term success is no longer achievable through traditional competitive advantage alone but requires the deliberate integration of sustainable value creation into the core of business strategy. By synthesizing established strategic frameworks like competitive landscape analysis and Porter’s forces with emerging concepts such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria and dual-value creation (Value to Business and Value to Society), this paper provides a model for navigating the modern commercial environment. It concludes that the future of strategic management lies in a company's ability to harmonize financial performance with positive societal impact, thereby building resilient and sustainable competitive advantages.
