INFLUENCE OF AGILE WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT ON JOB PERFORMANCE OF SECRETARIES IN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract
The study determined the influence of agile workplace environment on the job performance of secretaries in public tertiary institutions in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 275 secretaries across four public tertiary institutions in Anambra State, while census sampling was adopted because the population was manageable. Data were collected using two self-structured instruments namely: Influence of agile workplace environment Questionnaire (IAWEQ) and Job Performance of Secretaries Questionnaire (JPSQ). The face and content validation were carried out by three experts. Reliability was established through a pilot test using Cronbach Alpha, which yielded an overall reliability co-efficient of 0.87 for IAWEQ and 0.85 for JPSQ. 275 copies of the questionnaire were administered out of which 226 copies were retrieved in good condition and used for analysis. Data were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while t-test statistics was employed to test the null hypotheses. Findings revealed that agile workplace environment influenced the job performance of older and younger secretaries to a high extent. Agile workplace environment also influenced the job performance of experienced and less experienced secretaries to a high extent. The t-test results showed no significant difference in the mean ratings of older and younger secretaries, and no significant difference in the mean ratings of experienced and less experienced secretaries. The study concluded that agile workplace environment is a general performance support factor for secretaries irrespective of age and years of experience. It recommended that administrators of public tertiary institutions should put in place policies that would promote and strengthen agile workplace environments.
